Michael Hedges Photos

These are pictures I took at a Michael Hedges open air concert at Penn's Landing - Phila., PA (June 17,1989)... This man looked like he just woke up when he appeared on stage, but flew into a fiery performance I will never forget! I last saw an awe-inspiring performance from him on November 18, 1997 at the Seaport Museum Auditorium (Penn's Landing, Philadelphia, PA) 2 weeks before he tragically passed away. [Other misc. news at the time]

I think someone else put it perfectly: "The angels have just learned a new way to play the harps in heaven." (Anonymous Posting from the UK...)

January 6, 1998 N.A.R.A.S. announced today that Michael's latest album, Oracle, has been nominated for a Grammy Award in the category of Best New Age Album. February 26, 1998 Michael Hedges was posthumously awarded the grammy for Best New Age Album.

Here is a great biography written by Matt Guthrie, the webmaster for Michael's site.

At one of Michael Hedges' 1993 concerts, a fan jokingly shouted, "Play something unpredictable!", precipitating a puzzled silence from the crowd and stage. After a reflective moment, Michael responded matter-of-factly, "I've been trying to do that my whole life", precipitating thunderous applause rivaling any given to his music that evening and speaking volumes about his relationship to his audience.
