This is an old Cyrix P5 133Mhz that sits in a closet that I de-commissioned
from my sister. It has 32MB of RAM and a old 2GB IDE hard drive. It serves
up these pages nicely and acts as a router/masquerader for other PC's behind
this beastly network and has it's own firewall I wrote (as do ANY of my PC's
that connect directly via PPPoE).
My ISP insists on PPPoE so I use Dynamic DNS
to keep juanisan.home.net at my
fingertips no matter where in the world I am at.
The main page gets updated with news from Slashdot,
Linux Today, and
Freshmeat every 30 minutes using some simple C programs to parse their data
and create little news files for me to dynamically include in the home page HTML.
The weather banner gets pulled every 10 minutes.
Other PC's here that this system protects are my multimedia PC and my main
machine as well as a roommate's machine and others that come and go from this
"collective".

This has Slackware Linux 8.0, SCO Unix Open Server 5, OS/2 Warp 4, FreeBSD 4.3,
and for kicks Windoze 98. I experiment with other OS'es alot to see what their
capabilies are. In my Slackware I use VMware to experiment with other versions
of Linux, Windows 98, Windows NT, and Windows 2000. I have gotten SCO to operate
under VMware but I had to really tweak the kernel a bit :-)... I even got the SCO
use the VMware "host only" network, which I tought was quite spiffy.
Ever since Transgaming
came out with WineX, I have not needed M$ Windoze to play
Diablo II. As this was the only reason
to have Windoze on my machine, I may remove it soon.
I also play Unreal Tournament for
Linux alot. I am in the
Vengeance Theory Clan and am known as vT|FearThePenguin. 5/2/02
Just also became a member of the Barbarian Clan
and now known there as BAR|BeerThePenguin. Incidentally, the Barbarians
site is ALSO hosted on this old Cyrix P5 133 machine.
Multimedia Machine:
- 233 Mhz PII MMX
- ATI All-In-Wonder TV Tuner (PCI)
- Sound Blaster AWE 32 (ISA)
- 3COM 3c509b 10Mb Ethernet
- Adaptec 2940 SCSI (PCI)
- Some Seagate Narrow SCSI drives
This interfaces with my stereo system to record audio and video so I can
master CD's from LP, Cassette, Reel-to-Reel, or 4-Track multitrack tapes of my
own music or make MPEG videos from LaserDisc, DVD, VHS Hi-Fi, or BetaMax Hi-Fi.
It doesn't do any of the encoding/compressing, just the recording, then I use
NFS to share the data on my network to other machines to handle editing and
matering. I guess I should say that I DON'T do Windoze, and all the software
is Linux based. Sorry Bill ;-)
I guess I should list out the stereo equipment too!
- Outlaw 1050 Dolby Digital 6.1 / DTS 5.1 receiver
- Mitsubishi 32" TV (with SVHS inputs)
- Pioneer 606 LaserDisc/CD player with Dolby Digital AC-3/RF
- Kenwood AC-3/RF to AC-3/Coax converter
- Pioneer Elite DVL-90 LaserDisc/DVD/CD player
- Pioneer dual cassette deck with Dolby B, C, and S!
- Pioneer RT-707 reel to reel deck
- Project 1.2 Turntable
- Toshiba VHS Hi-Fi
- Sony VHS Hi-Fi
- Sony BetaMax Hi-Fi SL-2710
- Boston Acoustics CR-9 (L/R Main), VR-? (Center), CR-7 (L/R Rear), CR-6 (Center Rear), ??? Subwoofer

Tis late - will finish this page later....
My brain is spinning from listing out all my toys. :-)
Just go back to the main page
